Linking Universe in SAP Business Objects XI 3.1

Business Objects can only link universes that are connected to a single repository or in other words BO can only like universes that are connected to a single database server machine. No two universe can be linked if the databases are different. Please see the error message prompted by BO when linking 2 universes from different physical databases.

In order to merge all the datasources , Data Federator can be used which merges all the datasource together and a universe can be created on the target virtual table. OR data can be merged at the WEBI, DESKI, Crystal reports, level.

In BO 4.0 Universe designer is embedded with Data Federator merging capabilities hence in BO 4 a Universe can be connected to multiple databases. Universe Designer in BO 4 is called 'Information Design tool'.
